Advent - Colossians 1:13-14

1 December 2025

The sermon opened Advent by contrasting the pressure and disappointment of modern Christmas with the honest hope of the Christian season of waiting. Centering on Colossians 1:13–14, it described the world as a “domain of darkness,” marked by evil, suffering, spiritual bondage, and humanity’s own sinful desires. The message urged listeners to face that darkness soberly rather than deny it, because only then can the good news of Jesus be seen clearly.

From there, the sermon turned to hope: God has sent Jesus as the rescuer who delivers people from darkness and brings them into his kingdom. Through Jesus’ death and the forgiveness of sins, people are freed from slavery, fear, deception, and judgment, and welcomed into new life, truth, peace, and the love of God. The congregation was encouraged to see Advent as a season to remember Christ’s first coming, prepare for his return, and respond with repentance, faith, courage, and worship.
