The sermon invites people to see Advent as the celebration of Jesus not only as Savior, but as the good King the world desperately needs. Drawing from Colossians 1, it presents Christ as the perfect image of God, the ruler with flawless character, complete power, and true majesty. In contrast to human leaders whose rule is often broken and self-serving, Jesus brings justice, peace, and restoration, and he alone is worthy of trust and submission.
It also emphasizes that Jesus’ rule is not abstract but transforming: as people come under his reign, God’s image is renewed in them, reshaping families, relationships, generosity, wisdom, and unity in the church. Because all things were created through him, for him, and are held together by him, the sermon urges hearers to stop looking to lesser guides or rulers and instead surrender their lives to Christ, who came humbly and will return in glory.
