The Gospel According to Luke - Luke 10:1-20
2 November 2025
The sermon says that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection changed history in a way that should reshape how people live. In Luke 10, Jesus sends out the seventy-two ahead of him, and this is presented as a model for the church today: believers are called to live on mission with prayer, courage, simplicity, and a steady presence. They are to trust God, care for others in tangible ways, speak clearly about Christ, and remember that responding to Jesus’ message is a serious matter.
It also stresses that people should humbly listen when God’s word is spoken, because to receive or reject Christ’s message is to receive or reject Christ himself. Yet the sermon ends on hope, not fear: the greatest reason for joy is not spiritual power or visible success, but God’s grace. Christians are invited to rejoice above all that their names are written in heaven and to live with gratitude, confidence, and love because they belong to Jesus’ kingdom.
