The Gospel According to Luke - Luke 14:15-24
24 May 2026
The sermon explains Jesus’ parable of the great banquet as a vivid picture of God’s kingdom and the astonishing invitation of salvation. It says the tragedy is not that the invitation is unclear, but that people often treat it lightly, assuming they are fine with God while clinging to status, possessions, pleasure, or other earthly loves. The preacher emphasizes that these excuses are small and foolish compared with the life, joy, and eternal hope Christ offers now and forever.
It also highlights both the warning and the mercy in the parable. Those who presume on God while rejecting Jesus place themselves outside the feast, yet God’s grace reaches far beyond the expected guests. The poor, the outcast, and the unlikely are welcomed in, showing that no one earns a place at God’s table. The sermon calls hearers to humble themselves, receive Christ with gratitude, and keep praying and laboring in hope for others to be brought in as well.
