The sermon explored Jesus’ parable of the dishonest manager by stressing that Jesus is not praising waste or dishonesty, but shrewdness. The main message was that believers should wisely use what God has entrusted to them, especially money, for God’s purposes rather than treating it as something to hoard or spend only on themselves. Earthly wealth is temporary, and it should be used in ways that bless others, support God’s kingdom, and point people toward eternal life.
The preacher also emphasized that money reveals who or what a person is serving. Finances are part of God’s training in faithfulness, whether someone has little or much. Rather than living in guilt or fear, Christians are invited to handle money from the security of God’s love in Christ. Because Jesus frees people from being ruled by money, they can serve God with open hands, joy, and trust.
