The Gospel According to Luke - Luke 17:1-10

12 July 2026

In this sermon on Luke 17:1–10, the pastor says Jesus teaches his disciples about three closely connected realities: sin, faith, and humble service. Jesus warns believers to be careful not to lead vulnerable Christians into sin, and he calls the church to deal honestly with wrongdoing. Rather than either excusing sin or harshly cancelling people, Christians are to lovingly rebuke, gladly forgive those who repent, and remain open to reconciliation because they themselves have been deeply forgiven by God through Christ.

He then explains that this kind of obedience is impossible by human strength alone, which is why the disciples ask for greater faith. Even small faith in Jesus, he says, is enough for God to do what seems impossible, including helping people forgive deep wrongs. The sermon closes by reminding listeners that when they do obey, they should do so with humility, remembering they are servants of a gracious Master who saved them and supplies everything they need.
