The Gospel According to Luke - Luke 17:20-37
27 July 2026
The sermon says Jesus answers a deep question for every believer living in his apparent absence: when he does not seem near, how should his people live? From Luke 17, the preacher explains that Christians should not chase dramatic signs, mystical experiences, or secret clues about God’s kingdom. Jesus’ return will be unmistakable. Instead, they are called to look to the cross, where Christ gave himself for sinners, and to trust that he is present now by his Spirit among his people.
It also warns against the opposite danger of burying life in ordinary concerns—work, family, possessions, and daily routines—while forgetting that Christ will return. Good things become dangerous when they replace God as the heart’s true treasure. The sermon urges hearers not to try to save themselves, but to receive the kingdom as the Father’s gracious gift, seek Christ first, and live with hope, obedience, and readiness for his coming.
