The Gospel According to Luke - Luke 9:28-36
6 October 2025
The sermon reflects on Jesus’ transfiguration as a moment when his true glory is briefly revealed to the disciples. It explains that Jesus is shown to be greater than Moses, greater than Elijah, and ultimately the chosen Son of God himself. Moses and Elijah point to him, and even their conversation about his coming “departure” shows that Jesus would accomplish a far greater rescue through his death, resurrection, and ascension than the exodus of old.
The main call of the sermon is simple: if Jesus is truly God’s glorious Son, then people must listen to him. The pastor warns against a comfortable, “mountaintop” faith that wants Jesus without suffering, obedience, or mission. Instead, followers of Christ are called to come down the mountain with him—to love the lost, serve the broken, speak the truth with courage, and take up their cross in the way of self-giving love.
