The Psalms of Ascent - Psalm 121

6 July 2025

This sermon reflects on Psalm 121 as a song for people on a hard journey, comparing Israel’s pilgrimage to the Christian life. Its main message is that believers can trust the Lord as their keeper because he is powerful, faithful, and merciful. God is not distant or asleep, but the Creator who rules over all things and remains near to his people in every step, danger, sorrow, and uncertainty.

The preacher also stresses that God’s keeping does not mean a pain-free life, but a deep assurance that he holds his people now and forever. That hope is anchored in Jesus, who walked the path of suffering, went to the cross, and was raised from the grave. Because of God’s mercy, people who are weak, anxious, and undeserving are still kept by him, and the church is called to remind one another of that promise.
